Odisha: BJD releases list of 9 candidates, 8 new faces
In view of the Lok Sabha elections, all the parties have started slowly releasing their list of candidates. In Odisha, the ruling BJD has added eight new faces in its first list for 9 Lok Sabha seats.

In view of the Lok Sabha elections, all the parties have started slowly releasing their list of candidates. In Odisha, the ruling BJD has added eight new faces in its first list for 9 Lok Sabha seats.

Sunita, daughter of former Chief Minister and Hemnanda Biswal of Congress, has been released from Sundargarh seat. This is the only Lok Sabha seat of the state on which the BJP won in 2014. At the same time, the BJD has given ticket to Rajya Sabha MP Achyut Samant for the cut-off Kand Kandhamal seat of current MP Pratyusha Rajeshwari Singh. For the Koraput Lok Sabha seat, Patnaik has given ticket to his wife Kaushalya in place of current MP Zinna Hikka.

The party has nominated MLA Pushpendra Singh Dev from Dharmagad for the Kalahandi Lok Sabha seat. He will replace the current MP, Extra Keshari Dev. Patnaik also announced the names of 54 candidates out of 147 for the assembly elections in the first list of Lok Sabha candidates.

Odisha Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) President Naveen Patnaik will contest the assembly elections from two seats in the state. Patnaik will nominate from Bijipur and his home constituency, Hinjili. READ MORE:- May be the arrest of Nirav Modi, Arrest Warrant in London

Please tell that the Lok Sabha and the assembly elections in the state will be held simultaneously. Starting from April 11, the elections will be completed in four phases. Elections will be held in Odisha on 21 seats of Lok Sabha and 147 assembly seats in four phases on 11, 18, 23 and 29 April. Voting in the second phase will be held on April 18 in Hinjili and Bijipur.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJD won 20 seats. There was only one seat in BJP's account. The Congress could not get a single seat in Odisha.
